I was invited to attend the Canprev breakfast downtown Toronto ahead of CHFA East 2019. CHFA stand for the Canadian Health Food Association and they have annual conference and trade show downtown Toronto at the Metro Convention Centre. It’s actually pretty cool because you get to sample and learn about pretty much every natural product on the market. It has some of the big players attending like Genuine Health, Garden of Life, SISU, Progressive, Lorna Vanderhaeghe – I could go on and on but you get the idea.
It’s not open to the public but only people who work in the industry. As a registered holistic nutritionist I fall under this category. I wrote about my previous visit at CHFA East in 2017.
If you aren’t familiar with Canprev – they are a Canadian supplement company based out of Toronto. They are arguably one of the fastest growing natural products company in the country mainly because they create products that are therapeutic grade and actually work. Founded by Tanya Salituro and her husband back in 2005. Tanya is an amazing women – she’s a mama of 4 and a 3 time breast cancer survivor. She’s also very sweet in person as I got the opportunity to chat with her after the breakfast.

Magnesium Bisglycinate
I have been using Canprev products for years – specifically their magnesium bisglycinate which has helped my sore muscles recover from teaching multiple classes a day and lately has gotten me through an achy sore lower back in my third pregnancy. It’s one of my top 5 go-to supplements I use daily and the one I most frequently recommend to my clients.
Magnesium is an essential mineral found in leafy greens and dark chocolate, yet most people are deficient in it. Did you know that magnesium is responsible for hundreds of biochemical reactions in your body?
As I mentioned I use magnesium to help with muscle recovery, lower back pain and to help me relax to fall asleep at night. Magnesium is known to not only support our physical bodies but our mood – it’s an ideal supplement for those who frequently have anxiety and stress.
Not all forms of magnesium are created equal. You want to look for magnesium bisglycinate form – your body absorbs this one well and you don’t need to take as much as the other forms. If you cannot find magnesium bisglycinate form then citrate would be your second best choice. I would definitely avoid magnesium oxide – it’s a cheap form of magnesium that isn’t absorb in your body at all – it’s mostly used as a laxative because it will fly right through you.
79% of women are supplement consumers.
Did you know that 79% of women are supplement consumers vs 73% of men. But here’s the real kicker – women spend DOUBLE the amount on supplements vs men. Which is why Canprev is launching their women’s line and I’m so excited to learn more about these products. You can look for them in stores now.
